...Hope Barry Bonds Doesn't Break Hank Aaron's Record
Being its Saturday and Being that A-Rod just nailed number 500 in his home run quest today's 8 reasons is why I hope Barry Bonds Never Breaks Hank Aaron's Record.
1. Its bad for baseball. For a grand old sport that prided itself on punishing and banning cheaters, Barry Bonds (in my opinion) is a cheater. Trying to make a media event out of something that may only have been accomplished though cheating is just as bad as calling an all-star game with the score tied.
2. If MLB does not step in and stop this, they need to step in and unban Shoeless Joe Jackson and although i can't believe i'm going to type this Pete Rose ( I can't stand Pete Rose) but what's fair is fair.
3. Hank Aaron was and is good for baseball. He is an upstanding guy and MLB should take its lead from him and not participate in a manufactured event which appears to be based on chemicals and not on talent.
4. It shows that cheats do win. Doesn't really set examples for kids today.
5. His avoidance of the topic and unwillingness to defend himeself speaks volumes. Curt Shilling was right. Same goes for Mark McGuire.
6. I was reminded this week of Cal Ripkin as he was added to Cooperstown. It reminded me of the intergity in which he played with and why although, as a Yankee fan, I was sad he broke Lou Greig's record, if anyone broke the Ironman Record, it was a class act such as Cal Ripkin. Too bad we can't say the same for Bonds huh?
7. Shows how out of touch baseball is with its fans. This should have been stopped. Suspended. Tested or somethinging not to allow this benchmark of baseballs history and intergity to fall.
8. Figures this would happen in San Franciso... So why does it not suprise me that the citizens of the city cheer for an apparent cheeter, instead of standing up for what's right and running the guy out of town on a rail. But Mayor Gavin Newsome wants to save the earth by banning Plastic Bags in Grocery store outlawing bottled water.
I guess its just a sign of the times. A very sad sign.
